Feline Injection Site Sarcoma

Hearing your pet has cancer is a pet owner’s worst nightmare. I lived this when my cat, Momo, was diagnosed with Injection Site Sarcoma in December 2023. Having a pet with cancer is emotionally and financially overwhelming, as well as devastating. I found tremendous solace in connecting with others on the internet who have lived through similar experiences. The challenge of deciding the fate of this little creature, who you love and adore, and who cannot speak for themselves, is incredibly difficult and finding those who can sympathize with what you’re going through is so important.

After Momo’s diagnosis, I did what any reasonable person with an internet connection would and spent hours upon hours googling information, scouring the internet for some sort of clear answer on how to approach this disease. Ultimately, what I found was very sparse. FISS, compared to other cancers seen in cats, is very under-researched. Many websites describe the basic facts of FISS, almost verbatim what your veterinarian might tell you, but almost none paint a picture of what it’s really like to have a cat with FISS. I ended up, for better or worse, developing an impressive medical literacy in order to understand what Momo and I were facing.

I created this website in the hopes that by synthesizing everything I have learned and encountered, I can help other pet parents who are faced with the same diagnosis. This disease sucks, and there is no embellishing that. The least I can do is help it suck a little less by providing some insight and understanding to having a cat with FISS.

Please note that all information available here is from my own research and experience as a pet owner dealing with FISS. If you find that any information is incorrect, please let me know!
